Governments, especially the U. S. federal government, are placing their laws, reports, statistics, and other information of public interest on their Web sites.

General Government Sites

Google (Uncle Sam) A respected general search engine, Google also has this engine which searches only .gov and .mil sites.

University of Michigan Library's Document Center The Documents Center is a central reference and referral point for government information, whether local, state, federal, foreign or international. Its web pages are a reference and instructional tool for government, political science, statistical data, and news."

Yahoo: Government - This directory contains subdirectories for such topics as Countries, Documents, Embassies and Consulates.

Unrestricted Access

"Agency Approach" To Locating Government Information on the Internet is a tutorial created by Chuck Malone, Government Information Librarian, Western Illinois University Library.

Monthly Catalog of United States Government Publications (MOCAT) is published by the U. S. Government Printing Office. Tips on searching are found adjacent to the entry box for the index.

FedStats is maintained by the Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy to provide easy access to statistics and information produced by many agencies.

FirstGov is "the first-ever government website to provide the public with easy, one-stop access to all online U.S. Federal Government resources."

Frequently Used Sites Related to U.S. Federal Government Information Compiled by the Federal Documents Task Force (FDTF)/Government Documents Round Table (GODORT)/American Library Association (ALA).

Government Information Sharing Project, from the Oregon State University Library, makes some of their federal depository CD-ROM databases available to the public.

GPO Access is the U.S. Government Printing Office Web Site with free government information.

Tax Forms - The Internal Revenue Service provides forms and instructions back to 1992 in various file formats.

U.S. Federal Government Agencies Page - LSU Library's excellent directory is categorized by executive, judicial, legislative, etc.

Depository

Our federal depository status allows access in the library for one user, who must be logged in by a reference librarian.

Stat-USA provides State of the Nation data free to the general public. The National Trade Data Bank, however, is restricted.

Pennsylvania manual - Published every two years, the manual has information about the various units of government, elections, and serves as a directory for state colleges, forests, parks, and media. Pages are in pdf.

Pennsylvania State Government - This is the Commonwealth's Web server, with links to the various agencies.

Pennsylvania Code  "Information included at this site has been derived directly from the Pennsylvania Code, the Commonwealth's official publication of rules and regulations. State Legislative Presence on the Internet - MultiState Associates links and rates state legislative pages.

StateSearch has over 2000 pages arranged by 23 categories; from the National Association of State Information Resource Executives. Takes awhile to load.
