Book Purchase Requests
Recommendations for the purchase of books, videos, compact discs, or other materials for the Harvey A. Andruss Library are welcome. The availability of funds and the appropriateness of the material to our collections will determine whether it will be purchased. Use our online request form to recommend a Book for Purchase.
Access Services
The library's non-instructional desk services are provided at the Circulation Desk on the First Floor. Materials from the General Collection and other collections may be taken out, renewed (no telephone renewals, please), or returned at the Desk.Circulation Procedure
Up to 100 circulating books/person may be borrowed for one month by students and staff, for the academic year by faculty and administrative staff. The Bloomsburg University ID card also serves as a library card. It may be used to place a hold on books upon their return, to check the status of circulation records for dates due and fines, and to renew materials. For more information on these and other procedures, refer to the Andruss Library Catalog/Circulation System page.
Special loans for materials that normally do not circulate may be negotiated with unit responsible for their use. The Coordinator of Access Services is responsible for the Periodicals Collection, and the Archivist/Coordinator of Special Collections for the Archives and Special Collections. Ask at the Reference Desk for questions about other materials. If you have specific questions regarding circulation please direct them to circdesk@bloomu.edu

In-Process Request
Andruss Librarys online acquisitions procedures result in titles appearing in the Pilot catalog before they are available to the public. Some of these titles will say "Copy Received" and a date, or "In Process." If the book is available for processing, the Cataloging Department will rush catalog it for you. Use our online request form to initiate an In-Process Request.Cataloging of books that say "At Bindery" will be dependent on the date of their return, which may be as long as four weeks.

Interlibrary Loan
Attention Please!
Previous ILLiad Users: Before placing a request, please take a moment after you log on to scroll down the page and click on the button that says “Change User Information” to confirm that we have your correct mailing address and telephone number. This is very important. ILLiad does NOT automatically update when you update STINF. Thank you.
What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary loan ( ILL ) is used by a library which does not own materials needed by its patrons to get those materials from another library.
Interlibrary Loan may NOT be used to avoid purchase of required course materials. Students are expected to buy required textbooks. Faculty should consult with the Acquisitions Librarian regarding possible purchase of books or videos to be placed on reserve as well as visual materials that will be used repeatedly in their classrooms. Because copyright law restricts the number of articles that may be ordered without paying (sometimes significant) royalties, faculty members should check library resources before making assignments using recent periodicals.
Who may use Interlibrary Loan?
At Andruss Library , ILL is available to faculty, staff, and students when materials they need are not in our collection or available through our many online resources. Please, ALWAYS check our Pilot online catalog (for books) or Serials Solutions (for periodicals) before ordering through Interlibrary Loan to make sure we do not own what you need. You may consult with a Reference Librarian if you are unsure how to do this or encounter any difficulty.
Is there a charge for Interlibrary Loan?
Most of the time, we are able to obtain materials at no cost. We never order from a source that charges unless the item is not available free and you have indicated a willingness in advance to pay.
How long does Interlibrary Loan take?
Easily obtained materials are usually here within several days. Some articles actually arrive within 24 hours. More difficult items could take as long as two to four weeks. The time it takes depends on how many different libraries we have to try before we are successful and what method of delivery the lending library uses. Because of policies at potential lending libraries, certain materials, such as rare or very new books, may be difficult to obtain. You will be notified if we are unsuccessful in filling your request.
How do I get my Interlibrary Loan items?
You will be notified by email when your requested material has arrived. Articles are forwarded to you electronically or mailed depending on the format in which we receive them. Books may be picked up at the Circulation Desk whenever the library is open.
How do I place an Interlibrary Loan request?
Interlibrary Loans may be ordered through any of three online systems. For ARTICLES (or other photocopies such as a chapter in a book or topic from an encyclopedia) you MUST choose ILLiad. Books may be ordered through any of the systems; each has advantages and disadvantages.
You must have your Andruss Library ID number to place an Interlibrary Loan request. This number is found in the lower left hand corner of your Bloomsburg University ID card. You will also need to bring your ID card when picking up books.
ILLiad Interlibrary Loan Procedure Use ILLiad to order books, microfilm and articles or any other photocopies.
With ILLiad, you can check the status of your requests online yourself. You can request renewals (when allowed) yourself. Just return to ILLiad as if you were going to place another request. Scroll down to the part of the page that says "Review Requests." Use the buttons there to look at active but not yet filled requests, things currently checked out to you, completed requests and even unfilled requests.
ILLiad has access to many more libraries than PALCI or UBorrow. ILLiad requests are channeled through the ILL Office so they may take longer than PALCI or UBorrow requests.
When placing ILLiad requests, please be very careful to put information into the correct spaces. Fill in as many spaces as possible to speed your request. Incomplete or improperly completed requests will not be processed.
PALCI Interlibrary Loan Procedure Use PALCI to order books. With PALCI you search the catalogs of participating libraries (click here for list) and place your order yourself. This can speed your material to you. You can check the status of your PALCI requests yourself online after logging on to PALCI.
If necessary, Andruss Library Interlibrary Loan staff can check the status of your request. When inquiring, please be sure to mention that you are checking on a PALCI request.
Faculty members may travel to a PALCI member library to borrow materials directly; however, they must comply with the procedures found in the On-Site Borrowing Policy.
UBorrow Interlibrary Loan Procedure Use UBorrow to order books. UBorrow is similar to PALCI in that you check the catalogs of participating libraries, members of the Keystone Library Network (KLN), yourself and place your request yourself. It has the added advantage patron initiated renewal and on-site borrowing from other KLN libraries; however, this means that you as an individual, not the Interlibrary Loan Office, will deal directly with the lending library. All communication such as overdue notices will come to you directly and all information about UBorrow loans will be available only in your PILOT record. The Interlibrary Loan Office cannot check the status of UBorrow requests. UBorrow is accessed using the Simultaneous Search/UBorrow button in PILOT.
What if I need help with Interlibrary Loan?
If you need help determining if Interlibrary Loan is appropriate, please call a Reference Librarian at 389-4204, stop by the Reference Desk on the second floor of Andruss Library or contact the Reference Department by email . If you have questions about Interlibrary Loan policies and procedures or are having trouble placing a request, please call the Interlibrary Loan office at 389-4218 or send us an email at aschwart@bloomu.edu .
Books
PALCI Loans
PALCI (Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc.) is a group of nearly 40 academic libraries in Pennsylvania that have joined to provide book borrowing to students, faculty, and staff of the participating institutions with its URSA project. Among the participating libraries are all 14 State System of Higher Education libraries and the libraries of Pennsylvania State University, University of Pittsburgh, Lehigh, Temple, and Carnegie-Mellon.
You can simultaneously search the catalogs of the participating libraries through the PALCI catalog to identify titles and then request them directly from the owning libraries. Items are generally delivered within 4-7 days, and you will be notified by e-mail when the book is available for pickup at the Circulation Desk in Andruss Library.
Search Procedure
- Activate your university ID card (Note: If the card has been used to borrow materials from the library since 1998, it has already been activated).
- Connect to the PALCI catalog.
- Enter the barcode number from the back of your BU ID card and Submit input.
- Use the Searching/Requesting button to enter the catalog.
- If insufficient results are found from searching Group 1, continue the search in Group 2.
Faculty who wish to travel to a PALCI member library to borrow materials must follow the procedures found in the On Site Borrowing Policy, which also lists participating libraries.
UBorrow Loans
UBorrow is a means of extending PILOT's searching and borrowing capabilities to the Keystone Library Network (KLN). Although it does not provide access to the number of materials in PALCI (see above), it provides automated renewal and on-site borrowing from other KLN libraries. Use the Simultaneous Search/UBorrow button in PILOT to identify the location of an item, then the Request button to initiate a loan.
Periodicals
Before submitting a request for a periodical article, check Serials Solutions to determine if the periodical may be available from one of our online databases.Normally libraries will not loan whole issues or volumes of periodicals but instead photocopy specific articles you request. Copies are free from the State Library and many college and hospital libraries within the state. As with books, there is a statement to sign if one is willing to pay when free sources are not available.
Free photocopies will be mailed directly to you unless otherwise specified. When you have agreed to pay for articles available only at cost, payment must be made by check or money order at the Circulation Desk before the article can be received.
