Reference Services

Reference service is provided at the Reference Desk on the Second Floor by faculty reference librarians who give individual instruction in using the library's online catalog, in searching our computerized databases, and in finding information in the 30,000 volume Reference Collection.

They assist in locating materials in various formats (e.g. paper, microform, and electronic) and in various collections within the Harvey A. Andruss Library (General Collection, Government Documents Collection, Juvenile and Young Adult Collection, etc.) and at other information centers.

Reference librarians will give you tips on effectively using the World Wide Web and other Internet modes. Always ask at the Reference Desk if you need assistance in using the library's resources. A Reference Librarian can be contacted by telephone at (570) 389-4204.

If you need reference assistance when the Library is closed or if you are unable to come to the Library when it is open, online assistance is available through the "Online Reference HELP!" link on the Library's homepage. From that link you can either submit your question to a Bloomsburg reference librarian who will generally respond within 24 hours or, if you need more immediate assistance, you can engage in a live-chat with a reference librarian participating in Pennsylvania 's "Ask Here PA".

To enhance relationships between the library and individual academic departments, the reference librarians are assigned departmental liaison responsibilities.
