Electronic Databases:   Use to find journal articles on a particular topic. Each database indexes different journals, many of which are available full-text online or in print in Andruss Library. To see if the Library has the article you want, look for the 'Article Linker' icon or 'Check Availability' link within the database, or go to the Periodical Title List to see if Library has the journal.

CINAHL (EbscoHost) - 'Cumulative Index to Nursing and the Allied Health Literature' - indexes and provides abstracts to more than 1,700 journals. Links to full text when available. 1982 to the present.

Cochrane Library - Provides systematic literature reviews of healthcare interventions.

MEDLINE (EbscoHost) - Largest, most comprehensive database for medicine-related topics; sponsored by the National Library of Medicine. Use thesaurus  MeSH (for Medical Subject Headings). Free web version is PubMed ; this version links to our resources. Covers 1966 to the present.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Version (EbscoHost) - Provides access to 550+ scholarly full text journals, most of which are peer-reviewed. Indexes and abstracts an additional 800+ journals. 1975 to the present.

Journals at Ovid - Full-text for 25 health care journals and searchable abstracts for more than 2,000 health science & science journals. To limit to full-text, check "Ovid Full Text Available" near bottom of search screen. Covers 2000 to present.

Web of Science - Provides access to ISI's Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index for "high impact" journals. "Cited reference searching" identifies papers citing a previously published paper. Click on "Article Finder" icon to see if Andruss Library owns. Covers period from 1986 to present.

Annual Reviews Biomedical Sciences - Synthesizes primary research literature in 29 scientific disciplines. Search across all disciplines or limit search to subject area. Full text articles indicated by a green checkmark; if prompted for a user name/password, we do not subscribe to that journal.

Reference Books:

Search PILOT, the Library's Catalog , for additional books in the General Collection which may be checked out. Following is a list of reference books for in-library use, found on the 2nd floor.

Internet Web Sites:
Following are some useful sites found on the Andruss Library Web site, including some from E-Ref ("A collection of online reference tools appropriate for the undergraduate student").

Interlibrary Loan - request materials not owned by Andruss Library, either books or articles. If requesting an article, first search our Periodical Title List by journal name to be sure we do not have.

Research and Documentation: Social Sciences: Documenting Sources - information on how to cite using APA style, including how to do in-text citations, list of references, manuscript format; also provides a sample paper.

Atlas of the Body - provides illustrations of various parts of the human body accompanied in many cases by written explanations as to functions.

Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body - online version of the classic reference in its 20th ed, 1918.

Drug Information - guide to more than 9,000 prescription and over-the-counter medications provided by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) in the USP DI Volume II, Advice for the Patient . Part of MEDLINEplus.

Merriam-Webster's Medical Desk Dictionary - quick look up for medical terms.
