Nora (Bayliff) Markunas was born on February 14, 1914, in Vandling, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude Bayliff. She attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College and received her degree in Business Education in 1934, being one of the members of the first class to complete the Business Education program. She taught bookkeeping and shorthand at Forest City schools until her marriage to Anthony B. Markunas in 1940. Nora and Anthony had three children, Anthony B. Jr., Elenora (Heffner) and Trudy (Mosey). She worked as a substitute in both Sunbury and Northumberland until her husband passed away in 1965. Soon after that she joined the family business in Central Builders Supply Company and was the vice president until retiring in 1984.
Nora served on the board of directors of both Central Builders Supply Company and the John R. Kauffman Jr. Public Library. She also held memberships in variety of organizations including: the Friends of the Library, Bloomsburg Alumni Association, Northumberland County Historical Society, Mary Derr Rockefeller Hospital Auxiliary, Susquehanna Valley Country Club, and Friends of SUN Home. She passed away on October 4, 2008, at the age of 94.
