Correspondence, program and clippings
contained in two yearbooks donated to the Archives.
Lamar K. Blass (1937), 1936-94
First Lieutenant Lamar Blass served
with the 68th Armored Field Artillery Battalion until he was killed in action in
Italy on May 29, 1944. As a student he served as president of the Senior Class, participated in track,
football and
basketball, and was inducted into the Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. Folder
contains photographs, his patch from the 1st Armored Division, correspondence, and newspaper clippings of his involvement
in athletics and his service in the military. Photographs from his
personal album, donated by his widow Marion, include images of Blass in his
athletic uniforms; with the 1937 State Conference Track Championship trophy,
basketball and track teammates, and fellow residents of the North Hall
dormitory; in his commencement gown, as a teacher at Catawissa (1937) and New
Holland (1939) High Schools, and in 1940 as a lifeguard at a swimming pool in
New Holland. The correspondence includes letters from BSTC teammate
Francis Sell and fellow officer Field Duskin, who was with Blass at the time of
his death.

Rostand D. Kelly (1935), 1942-70

coverage of his service in the United States Navy during World War II and
newspaper clippings, board minutes, correspondence and reports from his 1959-63
tenure as curator of the Laguna Art Gallery in Laguna Beach, California.
Richard Lichtel (1968), 2005-07
Richard Lichtel played football for
Bloomsburg State College from 1965-67 and was the head coach at Mechanicsburg
High School. Folder contains photographs, a T-shirt, and two video tributes.
Daniel Litwhiler (1938), 1941-2001
Major League Baseball player from
1940-51 with the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Braves and
Cincinnati Reds; head coach at Florida State University 1955-63 and at Michigan
State University from 1964 until his retirement in 1982. Also noted for
inventing the radar gun to measure pitching speed and developing a product for
drying wet fields. Folder contains his 1938 Commencement Week booklet, a baseball card, photographs, buttons from a
political campaign for sheriff, magazine article, certificate, post card and
correspondence.
Eudora Berlew Lyhne (1945), 2011
A four-page letter about her time as a student at the Bloomsburg State Teachers College
during World War II and the Navy V5 and V12 cadets stationed at the school, as
well as life with her husband Borge who was a member of the V12s.
