Recommendations for the purchase of books, videos, compact discs, or other materials for the Harvey A. Andruss Library are welcome. The availability of funds and the appropriateness of the material to our collections will determine whether it will be purchased. Use our online request form to recommend a Book for Purchase.
Up to 100 circulating books/person may be borrowed for one month by students and staff, for the academic year by faculty and administrative staff. The Bloomsburg University ID card also serves as a library card. It may be used to place a hold on books upon their return, to check the status of circulation records for dates due and fines, and to renew materials. For more information on these and other procedures, refer to the Andruss Library Catalog/Circulation System page.
Special loans for materials that normally do not circulate may be negotiated with unit responsible for their use. The Coordinator of Access Services is responsible for the Periodicals Collection, and the Archivist/Coordinator of Special Collections for the Archives and Special Collections. Ask at the Reference Desk for questions about other materials.
The Circulation Desk personnel maintain seven microfilm reader/printers, three microfiche reader/printers, one microfilm/fiche reader/printer in the microforms area plus one microfiche to microfiche duplicator.
The building has eleven non-color photocopy machines distributed on all four floors in the photocopy rooms behind the stairs opposite the elevators. Ask at the Circulation Desk to make color copies and transparencies.
The microform reader/printers are located in the Microtext Area, to the right of the Circulation Desk.

Printing
Printers for black and white copy are available for all computers. Except for the CD-LAN and Web stations in the reference area, computers link to printers in the photocopy rooms.Color printing is now available at one computer (located just outside Room 130 -- in the Microfilm Area on the first floor) linked to a color laser printer located next door in Room 128. Copies may be claimed at the Circulation Desk. Price is 50 cents/copy. In order to make this service cost effective it is important that patrons claim all copies they make. If this service proves popular additional computers may be networked to the printer.
The price for mailing copies of obituaries/marriage announcements from area newspapers is $2.00/each.
Devices for the visually impaired, including a Kurtzweil reader, are located in Room 242.
Cataloging of books that say "At Bindery" will be dependent on the date of their return, which may be as long as four weeks.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a procedure whereby one library (such as ours) may borrow from another for the use of its clients, and is arranged for you at the Reference Desk. At Andruss Library, ILL is intended for the use of the faculty, staff, and students when materials are not in our collection (please check our catalog). You have access (with such limitations as time and money) to the library resources of the world.
Qualified borrowers may pick up ILL forms from and return them to the Reference Desk, or use our online request form. Please fill out the forms completely, including a complete citation if possible, and citing the source in which you found mention of any periodical article requested. Expect a delay of from two days to two weeks between the time you submit a request and the time the material arrives.
Before submitting a request for a periodical article, check SerialsSolutions to determine if the periodical may be available from one of our online databases.
PALCI (Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc.) is a group of nearly 40 academic libraries in Pennsylvania that have joined to provide book borrowing to students, faculty, and staff of the participating institutions with its URSA project. Among the participating libraries are all 14 State System of Higher Education libraries and the libraries of Pennsylvania State University, University of Pittsburgh, Lehigh, Temple, and Carnegie-Mellon.
You can simultaneously search the catalogs of the participating libraries through the PALCI catalog to identify titles and then request them directly from the owning libraries. Items are generally delivered within 4-7 days, and you will be notified by e-mail when the book is available for pickup at the Circulation Desk in Andruss Library.
Search Procedure
Faculty who wish to travel to a PALCI member library to borrow materials must follow the procedures found in the On Site Borrowing Policy, which also lists participating libraries.
UBorrow is a means of extending PILOT's searching and borrowing capabilities to the Keystone Library Network (KLN). Although it does not provide access to the number of materials in PALCI (see above), it provides automated renewal and on-site borrowing from other KLN libraries. Use the Simultaneous Search/UBorrow button in PILOT to identify the location of an item, then the Request button to initiate a loan.
Normally libraries will not loan whole issues or volumes of periodicals but instead photocopy specific articles you request. Copies are free from the State Library and many college and hospital libraries within the state. As with books, there is a statement to sign if one is willing to pay when free sources are not available.
Free photocopies will be mailed directly to you unless otherwise specified. When you have agreed to pay for articles available only at cost, payment must be made by check or money order at the Circulation Desk before the article can be received.
