Most of the Andruss Library's databases are Web-based and accessible from the Internet. However, some are published as CD-ROMs- are mounted on the Library's Local Area Network and can only be accessed in the Library on Computer Stations 1-10.
- Access Pennsylvania is a union catalog of many libraries in the state, including our own. There is an Internet version, but the CD-ROM is especially useful as a backup to our Pilot Catalog when the Internet is inaccessible.
- Arden Shakespeare provides texts supplemented by supporting materials. Included on the CD-ROM are: facsimile images of every page of the first Folios and appropriate early Quarto texts; original illustrations from all the texts; Bullough, Narrative and Dramatic Sources of Shakespeare; an extensive bibliography of 4,600 works; works on the grammar and language of Shakespeare; introductions, notes, and variants from the printed Arden editions; and a fact table on each play.
Folios and Quartos can be shown alongside the modern critical edition. Software permits the searching of the texts in a variety of ways (using boolean operators, search by specific plays/sections, stage directions, glossary, commentaries, etc.).
- Civil War Official Army Records is a compilation of the official records of the union and confederate armies, with 131,000 pages.
- Encyclopedia of World History "Renowned historian Peter N. Stearns and thirty prominent historians have combined their expertise over the past ten years to perfect this comprehensive chronology of more than 20,000 entries that span the millennia from prehistoric times to the year 2000. Features chronological entries grouped by geographic region, allowing readers to get an in-depth view of distinct events along with a virtual time line of human history. But this new edition is much more than an expansion of a classic; it reflects important recent changes in historical trends and historical thinking. In addition to showcasing traditional facts of national leadership and state power, the Encyclopedia embraces social and cultural developments, non-European history, women's history, religion, health, economics, technology, and other vital but less often reported aspects of the human drama."
- Encyclopedia of Philosophy – Published by Routledge, this database provides more than 2,000 state-of-art articles, covering the broadest range of topics in the philosophical canon, as well as philosophy from all continents and all periods.
- Geographica " . . . is a superb illustrated atlas that includes detailed profiles and current statistics for every country in the world. - ValueLine Investment Survey "The Value Line Investment Survey is one of the most widely used independent investment information services in the world. Its up-to-date, weekly issues are also a comprehensive reference that has something useful for virtually every investor. In breadth of coverage it is encyclopedic, covering some 1,700 equity issues.
The Investment Survey, however, provides more than just descriptive information. For each stock in its universe it offers year-ahead and three- to five-year probable relative price performance, projections of key financial measures, and concise, objective commentary on current operations and future prospects.
The Investment Survey's main section, "Ratings & Reports," presents full-page, individual stock reports (encapsulating the company's past performance, current status, and outlook) and industry reviews. The "Summary & Index" provides a key to locating the latest quarterly and supplementary reports and cites the most recent data on each of the stocks followed. Finally, "Selection & Opinion," a feature section, gives Value Line's views on the economy and the stock market and on stocks of special interest. It also provides model portfolios for investors with various objectives and a number of economic and stock-market statistics."
