College Commons

The College Commons soon after it opened in 1957.

Built in 1956 for $450,000, this dining hall accommodated 650 students with tables seating up to six. Along with oak paneling the commons had a glass wall on the south side to create a light and airy atmosphere. The building was furnished with the latest food handling equipment and a modern tiled kitchen. From 1970 until 1973 it was used as a temporary student union. Today after being remodeled the building is used for the University Bookstore, campus mailroom, and campus police.
